# Web Analytics on Vertra Cloud: Traffic, Errors and Speed

> Web Analytics shows who visits your app, how fast it answers and where it fails, using data measured at the edge. Nothing to install in your code.

Web Analytics is the **Analytics** tab of every app published to the web. It shows how many people visit, which pages they open, how fast your app answers and which requests fail, with nothing to install and no code to change.

## Where the data comes from

Every request to your app passes through Vertra's edge network before it reaches your container, on both the `*.vertraweb.app` subdomain and your [custom domains](https://docs.vertracloud.app/applications.md). The edge measures each request as it goes by: the route, the status, the country, the device and how long each step took. Web Analytics reads those measurements for you.

This has three consequences:

* **No script, no cookie, no banner.** Your pages stay exactly as they are.
* **Bots and scanners are included.** They hit your app like anyone else, so the numbers match what your container really handled. You can filter them out.
* **Only web traffic counts.** An app without web publishing turned on shows an empty state until the first request arrives. Databases and background workers have no Analytics tab.

## Two levels: summary and details

> [card] [Summary](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/summary.md)
>
> One sentence and four numbers to answer "is my site healthy?". For everyone.

> [card] [Details](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/traffic.md)
>
> Traffic, errors, performance and requests, for when you want to investigate.

The tab has five sub-tabs:

| Sub-tab | Answers | Plans |
| - | - | - |
| [Summary](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/summary.md) | Is my site fast and healthy right now? | Every plan |
| [Traffic](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/traffic.md) | Who visits, from where, on what, and which pages? | Every plan |
| [Errors](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/errors.md) | What is failing and on which routes? | Every plan |
| [Performance](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/performance.md) | Is the slowness in my code or in the network? | Pro and above |
| [Requests](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/requests.md) | What exactly did this one request look like? | Pro and above |

## Controls shared by every sub-tab

* **Period bar:** 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or a custom range from the calendar. How far back you can go depends on the plan; see [History and plans](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/history-and-plans.md).
* **Compare:** draws the previous period as a dashed line and shows the change in each number. See [Compare periods](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/compare.md).
* **Filters:** click a country, route, status or any other value and every panel narrows to it. See [Traffic and filters](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/traffic.md).

## What to know before trusting a number

* With high traffic the figures are **estimates**, and the Requests table is a **sample**. See [Sampling and delay](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/sampling-and-delay.md).
* Data refreshes about every 5 minutes and can take a few minutes to appear, so the last minutes of the chart can still grow.
* Vertra does not store anything about your visitors, only the totals of your site. See [Privacy](https://docs.vertracloud.app/web-analytics/privacy.md).

## FAQ

> [accordion] Do I need to add a snippet or an SDK to my app?
>
> No. The measurements are taken before the request reaches your app, so Web Analytics works for any language and for sites with no code of their own.

> [accordion] Which hostnames are included?
>
> The app's `*.vertraweb.app` subdomain and every active custom domain attached to it. Other apps' hostnames are never mixed in.

> [accordion] Does it count visits to my databases?
>
> No. Only HTTP requests to apps published to the web are measured.
