A file can be reached three ways: a permanent public URL, a temporary link, or a share page. Pick by who needs access and for how long.

Public URL

A public file is served at https://blob.vertracloud.dev/<namespace>/<path>. The url field of the file object already contains it, with the path correctly encoded. Because it is permanent and cached, use it for avatars, site images and downloads that anyone may fetch. Download creates a link on blob.vertracloud.dev that works without credentials until expires_at. By default the route answers 302 and redirects; pass redirect=false to get { url, expires_at } instead.
A temporary link cannot be revoked. Anyone who has it can download until it expires, so keep expires_in as short as the use allows. If you need to cut access early, use a share instead.

Changing visibility

Switching a file between public and private never changes its id, only whether the url exists. Making a file private takes it off the CDN immediately and clears the cached copy.

Cache, filename and disposition

Use immutable for files whose path embeds a hash or a random suffix, since they never change. Folder-wide defaults live in folder rules.

Expiration

Set expires_at and the file is deleted automatically after that time. The shortest expiration allowed is 7 days; Enterprise-26 and above can go down to 1 hour. Send expires_at: null in an update to keep the file forever.
